That Lincoln

Ya it's a DC only machine but the guy from weldingtipsandtricks seems to have a lot of good to say about it. For the price, it's a damn good machine, millers multimatic 200 is about $600 more that's pretty comparable to it. Any big brand newer AC tig is gonna be a good bit more because even a 200 amp tig is only rated for like 1/4" on a single pass, you can weld thicker with helium but you have to have a big machine to weld aluminum and you'll want a water cooler.

If I ever have a shop nice enough and the side work to pay for it id buy a Miller xmt 304 and use it for all 3 processes. We used them a lot when I was in school and they are nice. Way over kill for most things I ever weld at home but they are awesome.

Does the miller come with the torch and tig rig for that money? BC the Lincoln is around a $600 add for that stuff.

I really don't know that much about TIG stuff, would just like to learn. That may be a good machine still for me. My goal for next year is to work on getting the shop the way I want it. Then the next year will be painting the Camaro I reckon. $$$$, can't take it with ya...

Im not real sure but i doubt it. You can honestly piece together a rig for way cheaper then what they sale. If you end up with one let me know i can hook you up with a lot of **** you'd want/need. I think you'd be happy with either of those if you want a multi-process machine. They'd be good to learn to tig on, it's not hard just got to figure out dumb ways to get comfortable and keep your hands steady.

I will be looking into that first of the year then. I have some things in it's way but thats a move i'd like to make. I'm sure Jay will want the old Mig machine so thats something I can work toward I guess. I really want more reasons to get into the shop to play.

That's what life insurance is for. I'm worth a lot dead... kinda a scary thought.
I work a lot to be worth more alive than dead. Problem is anytime that happens I feel the need to increase my life insurance and then the cycle starts all over again. Amazing how much I lose out of a check to life insurance. The part that pisses me off is that you pay all that money for years and as you get older the insurance company just keeps upping the rates and lowering the coverage. Regardless off if you have been paying constantly.

My only big concern with the multi-process machines is that if it breaks you lose everything. Plus repairs are going to be more expensive. I know that once we setup the tig to work on stuff I wouldn't want to break it down and move it to mig up something out in the lot. Of course we also end up running mig and tig a good bit at the same time so I like to keep them all separate.

^ I agree with you. The multimatic is a suitcase welder intended more for field work then home garage but is a pretty good all around machine for someone wanting It all without the clutter. Advantage of the XMT is you can have everything set up and all you need to do is turn the switch and cut your appropriate gas on. I'm not sure how the multimatic is set up for a tig attachment, but I'm sure it's just a denso plug on front that you should be able to have your tig rig set up still with your mig gun still attached as your mig is hooked up to the feeder part of the machine.

In Atlanta I had 2 migs and a tig set up I was constantly switching between, 1 with .024 for sheetmetal, one with .030 for thicker stuff, and a tig for everything else or any type of sheetmetal you could get a dolly behind to planish. Having varieties of tools on hand spoils you into not wanting to settle for something else.

This guy does a pretty good review on the multimatic

No title and bad motor, he's probably about right on the price. Good axles and t case...

You could just buy mine ;).
Larry I really thought about it but I just wouldnt feel comfortable almost emptying my savings haha. I figured I could sell my axles and motor out of the ZJ and be close to nothing in this and get something to just be back out on the trail again.

Seems as though it is not a huge deal on getting a title for a vehicle over 25. That one is an 88. Harvey or any other dealer guys know much about getting a duplicate title?

If you know the last registered owner a duplicate would be pretty easy if you could get in touch with them. If not, a 88 isn't really old enough to have a title generated. I think they have to be about 50 years old and have traceable VIN's to get a new title issued. Or register it as a custom build possibly. I was looking into it when I had that Willy's and it is doable on something old for sure but a PITA. On a 88 I would say it would be a no go. Best bet would be buy a shitty sami with a title after you get this one and change out the VIN's and use that title if you wanted to register it. Not exactly on the up and up, but it happens all the time.

You should look up form TI-021A, I'm currently using it to get a title to a motorcycle that came from a no-title state. You just get the VIN inspected and prove that you own the vehicle, which I did with a bill of sale and they will create a new title. I'm not sure if it has to be an antique vehicle or not, mine is a 1974. It takes time though, I'm going on 3 months since I turned the form in.
