I did a 01 z71 back in the day. Went ahead and did the pickup, and replaced the oil pump while i was at it. had great oil pressure till i spun a cam bearing a few weeks later doing a burnout in the rain....

I put it off as long as I could... dug in Sunday and took around 5 hours in total. It sucked, but worth it. When I unbolted the pickup retainer and the tube fell out, I knew this would fix the problem. I don't think I've ever seen that gauge hit 70 psi before Sunday night (except when the sender failed and it stayed on 80).
I like those plastic molded ones but they don't last very long. I get a couple of years out of them normally.
Todd has some fancy Creeper with big tires that roll over whatever is in the floor and have a handle that you push down and it locks it in place. I intend on that being my next one. Not sure of the brand but they are bad ass.
