OffroadSC goes West, Again Again....

Everybody enjoyed it. The stop at the top could be a little longer. We ate lunch and the kids dipped their feet in the water for a few minutes then it was time to pack up. It was also unusually warm which made the portion from town until you start to climb a little uncomfortable.
The views look awesome! Those old train cars are something else.

Today was the highlight of the trip so far. When we checked the forecast yesterday it was storms all day. We decided to cook breakfast at the loft, not be in a hurry, and not try to do the whole Alpine Loop.

This morning the forecast had changed and it was beautiful, but we still decided to take it slow. We got on the Alpine Loop in Silverton and went up to Animas Forks. We toured the buildings, kids played in the river, and ate lunch.

Then we headed up Cinnamon Pass to the marker and turned around and headed back towards town.

On the way down we checked out a few side trails. We ran Eureka Gulch to the dry lake and ran into a wall of sheep.

When we got back to town we stopped at Rocky Mountain Funnel Cake Factory for a pre dinner snack.

Then back to the loft for a while, then amazing dinner at the Handlebar.

Today was Arches day. We had an 8:00 AM timed entry pass and drove all the way through to the end, then turned around and made the stops on the way out.

We went back to the house for lunch and played a game of LIFE during the hottest part of the day.

Then we went to the Mill Creek Waterfall trail for a little hike to a swimming hole.

After the Sand Flats trails, we headed back to the house for lunch, then decided to go back in to Arches to take the Jeep trail out to Tower Arch. We were able to snag a 3:00 entry pass to Arches and hurried out, but didn't have a lot of time before we had to return the jeep. We did some crack canyon crevice climbing and headed back to town.

Today we slept in a little and cooked a good breakfast. We headed towards Canyonlands Island in the Sky region via Potash Road to Shafer Trail.

Stopped to see the dinosaur tracks at Poison Spider.

Thelma and Louise Point along Shafer.

When we got to the visitors center we ate lunch, then I went up to the information desk and Travis (@highpockets son) was working it.

This is the Shafer Trail overlook in Canyonlands looking back at where we came in.

We left Moab a little before 8:00 and made the long drive to Denver. No pictures except the Colorado welcome sign.
20220810_093458.jpg

Got there at 2:30 with a pee stop, then lunch/gas. I dropped everybody else off at the gate, returned the rental, and got to the longest security line I've ever seen. But, they were running it as efficiently as a Chik fil a drive-through. We're on the plane and ready to get back to GSP.

A few morning after thoughts. We covered around 1,400 miles in our little jeep (I called it Plucky, Nora called it JeepPS) and 80 in the Twisted Jeep. The little jeep impressed me. The 2.0T hauled the 5 of us and all our luggage around pretty well. I manually shifted it alot on the mountain roads to keep it in boost, but it did really well.

I've heard the same from others, but I kinda feel like I've been there done that on Moab. Colorado I've just scratched the surface. I'd go back next week if I could. Silverton was amazing and an excellent central location. There's at least 3 solid day trips I'd like to do from there, and you could spend many more days just wandering. There would be some logistics to figure out. My jeep or a Cliffhanger rental...
