Looks pretty good. something like that would be fun to scoot around in and wheel.

Thats my whole goal, I just want to be out on the trail again. I'd have that much cash into my ZJ getting it back to reliable trail condition. Im picking the Sami up Saturday. Down the road when I get into somewhere with some garage space Ill pick up a frame or chassis and throw the 5.9 into it and start a build while still having the little beater to go on rides with. Axles and other parts from the ZJ will be up for sale in a couple weeks. I plan on keeping the motor and trans but money talks.

another zj bites the dust. You dont think you could sell it whole?

Honestly I probably could. I might just throw the whole thing up as is and let it sit for a little while. I just figured I would get similar money out of it parted out compared to how it sits since it is in 100 pieces.

And Brooks I hear you saying "I told you so" like 5 times a day when I think about that damn zj

About time. Unibodies and v8's don't mix.

Soooo for all my electrical guru friends on here. I am thinking of running a power inverter set up for our tailgate this year. None of my friends or myself have a small generator to bring to power a TV but I do have two deep cycle marine batteries sitting on a shelf at my house. I was thinking of running a 1200 watt inverter (can get the whistler off Amazon for $70) to power a 40-50" flatscreen and a PS4. We don't have a directv box and dish so any form of live sports would come from watch ESPN on the Iphone to HDMI hook up.

After reading about the different wattage I'm pretty sure 1200 watts is plenty for our needs. Could I afford to drop down to an 800 watt?

And with the two deep cycle interstate batteries (I forget the stats on the batteries) how can I figure out my run time until dead with those batteries running the TV and PS4?

I'd wait for Tripp to answer most of your questions but in theory you can figure everything out with Power = Current * Voltage (P=IV). When you get into actual practice there are a lot of things to consider. Rated power usage vs actual, startup current draw, inverter efficiency...

Err on the side of caution and go bigger inverter than you think you need. Also, you could think about a solar panel or something to maintain some charging while the batteries are in use.

Typically inverters are in the ball park of 90% efficient. So we can do a bit of math.

Typical- 50 LED TV (VIZIO) - 59 Watts
PS4 - Best Research i can find is 150 Watts (id guess its a bit higher)

So that puts you at 225 watts... so 225w/110v = 2.045 amps of AC current

225w/14.4v = 15.625a + 10% = 17.18 amps of DC current@14.4v

Now, the battery.. its going to change voltage. You will need to know the discharge rate of your batterys but we can make some assumptions.
Chart from online.

@ 17 amps on a Group Deepcycle you are looking at 6 hours. I would derate that to about 4.5 if it was me.

Hope my math was right, hope this helps.

I played the inverter game once.. but this was a much better investment... and i personally think its better/quieter than a honda.

Awesome good info Tripp, thanks. The generator would be the way to go for sure. Maybe I can get the guys to go in on splitting one.
That's sorta what we did. I bought the generator, buddy bought the Dish Network Tailgater, we found a spare 32 inch and built a mount and storage box for the TV.

We built a reciever insert to stack the tents on the the chairs on top, I has a bracket for the TV and speaker to rest on. Crappy photo but you can kinda get the idea.
