I'm in the auction world, and I learned a lesson a few years ago. When it comes to custom cars, especially muscle cars, they have to go to the correct auction house.
I had a 100k corvette come through, and the customer insisted we try to sell it. 75k reserve, and couldn't get an opening bid of 25k. The guy later sent it to Jacksons in Florida, and got 95k.
Needless to say a hotrod doesn't belong at an antique auction house.
Now I can sell an 8k RollsRoyce for over 10k with little issue, but hotrods I don't have a market for.
I thought about doing an auto auction once a year, but finding 250 quality autos that I can sell, that's tough to find that many consigner's.
