hp44/9in with 39s?

#22
my frontier has an OE rear locker and weighs probably close to 6000lbs and has 33s and ive never come close to breaking it. is it just the rubi axles b/c chad broke his on 33s too?
I was thinking it's more along the lines of the 4:1 transfer case, along with the fact that the rubi D44 fronts have D30 outer stub shafts. The transfer case is the only explanation for the rears breaking.
First time it was the axle twisted off at the splines, second time it was an ear broke off at the u-joint. The u-joint was good an intact, just the axle broke. I'm not worried really. I have a spare set of alloy front & rear axles, and a spare stock rear shaft if it should all turn to S**t.

HP 44 and 9" is stronger than the wagoneer axles stock for stock and even modified.
Proof's in the pudding.... http://www.jpmagazine.com/techarticles/154_0708_weakest_to_strongest_axles/index.html
I never said it wasnt, i know how capable a hp44 and 9 are. But waggy 44s are lighter & cheaper, and when your dealing with a lightweight, low hp rig, that matters a lot. He could stuff waggys with 5.38 or 5.89s under a hard body and wheel the heck out of it. Im not sure if they run doublers or anything in nissans, but thats also a thing to consider with axles and gears. I know your talking about a cage and exo and what not, i would build what you have now and worry about that later, im not a fan of exos at all, all that does is add weight, especially if its just gonna get beaten. If you want an internal cage, some company may make a bolt in or weld in cage, if not tommy glenn seems to do very good work for a reasonable price.

Are you gonna keep it on leaves? My votes for waggys with leaves and keep it low on 37s with a 4cyl and 5spd. Simple and itll work.

Found this on the "P". I'm assuming the waggy 44 is similar in weight to a TJ 44 rear..... ? I was actually surprised it's lighter than a 9". :eeek:

if i get an hp44 itll be on radius and early bronco coil if its a waggy 44 ill use the calmini hangers and leaves, this all depends on the rear though because i dont really trust a c200 for 35s even but ive seen h233/h233b,s run on 37s under heavier trucks. and one can run dual tx10 xfer cases on nissans but if i wanted that i would just but new gears in.

as for the cage i want to keep it interior since its lighter and i dont care about the body on a trail rig.

not weight on the h233 or c200? i see how it is...

Is a h233 and c200 axles? Your throwing around these weird nissan numbers i dont understand
the c200 comes stock in v6 2wd & i4 4x4 hardbodys. the h233 was in v6 4x4 til 93 the got beefed up in 94 and is refered to as the h233b. the 200 and 233 are the size of the ring gear in mm i think 233mm comes out to about 9.2in, the h233 is also a 3rd member axle and guys run 38s on it locked under gen1 frontiers without issue.

so if i got a v6 truck id keep the rear axle, but if it ends up being a 4cylinder it will be cheaper to find and build a 9in ford or a yota axle ( h233 gear sets run about $500, detroits about $600 and ive never seen a price on chromos but they wouldnt be cheap)

run a yota front with a nissan case to a dana300. northwest fab makes an adapter
im not worried about xfercases til awhile after an SAS and if i did i would most likely just put calmini gears in it, those tx10s are tough, for that matter so are the tx12s and tx15s used in 1st and 2nd gen frontiers. these trucks are really tough they just lack as much aftermarket as yotas but i wanna keep it nissan since i love my frontier so much

new idea! rugged rocks is working with diamond to build an h233/D60 housing and superior to make 31 & 33 spline chromoly shafts ($450 a pair) theyre also working on SAS kits and 3-link brakets for the h233! it would blow any budget completely outta the water but be cool as h***!

i could start racing and test stuff for free though...

FWIW I ran my D44/9" set up for a little over a year in my xj. With the 4.0L, AW4, 203/205 and 36" IROC's I broke the 44 3 out of 6 trips that year and the 9" on the last trip. That is when I decided that anything over 35's on a D44/9" combo is living on borrow time.

I could not agree more

I stay away from the 14 bolt. I run a 35 psline 60 and it was not that expensive to build. The shafts were $100 each and I had a machine shop bore the spindles on a horizontal mill for $50. If you can find an older D60 with the 13spl shafts it has the spindles already big enough for the 35 spl shafts. If your goal is 37's or 39's you need tons. Everyone I know runing 37's or bigger on a D44 has broken it at some time or another.

URE, gulches, i wanna go to moab eventually, but mostly southeast stuff. for the near future 33s are cheapest and easiest, i want 37s eventually but if i need 1tons for that id want 39s or 40s just for diff clearance.

you go throwing one ton axles under this thing on 40s and that little frontier isnt going to tow it...
