New Year, New Jeep, the WTF-J

Since @jimbo92 already claimed the Why-J name...

A friend of ours wanted this out of their yard so it followed me home yesterday. It's a 1993, 4 cylinder, 5 speed, Fred Flinstone special.

We tinkered with it a little yesterday and the starter is locked up and we have no fuel pump. When I get time to mess with it, I hope to just get it running and have something to ride around the farm and teach the kids to drive a manual.

If I get it running, I'll be looking for some cheap cheap vinyl seats and probably a bikini top.

Drug the YJ into the garage today and threw a starter on it.

While I was doing that my assistant cleaned all the trash out of it and vacuumed it. Next is fuel pump. If that gets it going ill work on some cosmetics.

I love the look of those Cherokee/TJ wheels on a YJ. That bad boy does have some good rust fun to play with. Looks like the skid plate is welded to the frame also? Good times.

Replacement seats are the hardest thing for a YJ. Absolutely nothing fits like the stock ones, and most suck. Also if you are not worried about the body just cut a hole for the fuel pump. Dropping the tank sucks big ones as well.

Guy in Edgefield has a bunch of YJ stuff, just have to decide if it's worth it. He even has a red YJ that a tree fell on but the fender I need survived.

Put 2 brand new JK spares on it so that all tires hold air. I have a few more off dad's jeep that can go on the front eventually.

Then the kids went to work with power scrubbers. I hope they didn't scratch the paint...

I think tomorrow is going to be fuel pump swap day. If it runs, I'll pull that ratty top off and it might look half decent.

Yesterday ended up on a side quest for a hardtop for dad's jeep. I was taking the last nut off the gas tank skid as my phone beeped with the marketplace message to come get the top. So, today I got back on it.

I was pretty sure this was the culprit.

Before reinstalling the tank, I cycled the key and heard the new pump run. About an hour later...

The brakes are terrible, every rubber line is spraying fuel, but it runs.

I'm not used to working on things that use all SAE hardware.

The goal today was to make it where you didn't feel like you would contract an incurable disease every time you get in it. Mission accomplished.

I pulled the top off and removed all the carpet. Carpet was actually in decent shape so I pressure washed it and will store it away.

The windshield header screws were all pulled through so I set nutserts.

Yesterday I picked up a couple items:

And went for a drive. I can't believe this:
