you are making me realize, that for the first time at harlan, I'm going to have a passenger.... I guess I need to check the weather, I'm assuming no top and a bikini isn't going to cut it.
I couldn't let Black Friday / Cyber Monday completely escape me...
I've decided to go with a long arm but stock style parallel 4 link with trackbar in the back. Triangulation would require massive exhaust rework and trans cooler relocation. Probably going to move the gas tank back and move the axle back a few inches.
I don't have any room for a truss on the front. It'll get tube sleeves and whatever brackets it takes to make it work.
I haven't enjoyed the jeep for over a year. Between the lockers acting up and my body acting up, just haven't been feeling it. I've gone back and forth alot lately about a 4 door, but would have to give it up and know I'd regret it.
So...
I finally did some troubleshooting on the ARB and found out that my 70/100 psi switch was cycling at 65/85. I was hopeful that was the whole issue and I swapped the switch for a 90/120 psi. The front is now working correctly, but the rear still will not lock up consistently. Been doing some research and feel that the loss of air pressure probably let it slip and chewed up the clutch gear. I'll pull the carrier next week to investigate. If so, it's less than $100 part and in stock at ECGS.
So, I'm committing to enjoying this thing again and ordered a matching Corbeau bench that will hopefully be here before the poker run. The kids have outgrown the car seats and they need something with a head rest.
Pretty successful couple hours in the shop this evening and found exactly what I expected. One side of the ARB clutch gear is worn and was letting it slip when one wheel had traction and lock when the other side had traction. Time to clean up a little and head to ECGS website to order some parts.
Also, if anyone has a 0.006 TJ Dana 44 shim laying around I could use one...

I rebuilt the locker Sunday and got the carrier back in the axle. The new clutch gear is a revised part and uses a wave spring instead of the 12 linear springs, but everything worked out fine. I got the axles slid back in but didn't have time to finish.
Tonight I got the new air line routed, cover on, fluid filled, and finished it up. I have lockers again!
Jeep has been put in timeout for a while. When I break things, I break them good. Last weekend at the toy drive I broke the right rear shaft following Jim Hyatt . Tripp Williamson came and picked up the jeep because I had driven it up there and I just got to tear into it yesterday.
I was hoping to find a clean break, slide in a set of $320 ECGS chromos and roll on while increasing the eventual resale value of the axle. What I have is probably worst possible scenario break and scrap metal. The shaft broke in the locker, broke the ARB case half, bearing, and chewed up the housing surface. The amount of metal soup that came out of the housing was impressive. The case expanded and everything was stuck in the housing. To get the carrier out I had to go get a longer bolt that fit the ring gear and pry with a wrecking bar.
I'm not surprised or disappointed that it broke. I knew I was on borrowed time with this setup, but the way it broke sucks (and I really expected to break the front first). I'm out for Uwharrie and I have to get a game plan together to be ready for Kentucky in February.
I already had the Barnes rear JK truss kit sitting here. I placed a backorder for the front truss and C gussets. Ordered the 1310 conversion yokes from ECGS.
So... time to start cutting brackets off JK axles and get them in.
Major progress was made towards getting the jeep back on the road today. I've had these JK Rubicon Dana44s for over a year and breaking the stock LJ 44 meant something had to happen.
Also, not sure why I didn't buy a plasma cutter 15 years ago.
Set up to cut.
30 minutes with Plasma later.
Pile O Brackets.
1.5 hours of grinder and a couple disks later.
Barnes truss tacked on.
I came back down after dinner and got everything except the sway bar mounts tacked in.
