ALTRDTJ build

Well its been a minute since ive had an update. I got my ball joint eliminators in. The kit consist of a 7/8 inch shoulder bolt, (they are beefy) threaded insert and bronze bushing. Per the directions from Nick barna the owner of ball joint eliminators i needed to heat the knuckle for 30 minutes at 400⁰, i let it sit on the grill for over an hour. I decided to freeze the threaded insert which provided me an almost drop in fit in conjunction with heating the knuckle. I cranked up the miller 250 and burned in the insert very hot.

Got some goodies from summit racing today. Dodge 2500 MC, 20 foot if -3 braided ptfe brake line, and the mevotech ttx lower ball joints. I took some pictures of the fittings i used to adapt -3 an fittings straight to the MC. Im not running a prop valve, so the idea is keep it clean and run 1 line to the front and 1 to the back, both Ting off to each wheel. I got the -3 braid with the pvc shielding in hopes it will have better abrasion protection. We shall see. Still have to get a 1/4-28 bolt to modify for the push rod, brakes should be able to lock up the 39s no problem. ALSO been considering selling the 39 reds(2 rides on them) for a 42 inch goodyear MTR as i want to do some road driving with the jeep when its done! Anyone have any expirence with the MTR?

gillis ran the mtrs in a 40 and 42 i think. They seemed to do fine for road and trail, they are no red label though.

I have experience with 31s and 35s. They both worked well. I was also going to say Gillis ran them and they worked well from what I saw.

Well the best way to cut the factory track bar bracket off is to just chop the frame off all together. Got alot done this afternoon. New frame is 2x4 .120 wall. Also fabbed up a new grill/ front body mount, used 3/4 inch UHMW for the bushing, should work very well. Next up is to set the front axle in place and get all of the frame side link mounts in place.

Had a couple of hours to work on the jeep today so i dove into the cage. Got the rear of the cage cut out and c pillar bars bent and tacked in. Also got the dash bar cut and tacked in. I opted to use the factory b pillar only because im trying to keep this build as much on a budget as i can and that was somewhere i saw i could save a little bit of money. Plan is to do a rear halo to cover the rear seat for my daughter. All tubing is 1.75 .120 wall dom.

Things are shaping up, but after looking at the rear tubes, im going to cut and sleeve them at the top to push the bar back as far as i can. I now feel like its too short. So next is to fix that to my liking
moving it back will look good, also the halo will make it not look so short.

Got the cage reworked tonight, much better if you ask me! I cut and sleeved the tubing with 1.5 .250 wall that i had laying around. Plug welded them, probably unnecessary but its not hurting anything. Moved it back 4 inches, may not seem like alot but it was well worth the work. Still need to grind the welds down and blend them with the DA sander but ill do that this weekend.

Today didnt go as well as i would of wanted but i made a little forward progress. After burning up my dewalt 10 amp grinder (had it since 2013 and put it through its paces) i had to run to HD to get a new grinder to finish the driver side a pillar. Was hoping to get the driver and passenger side but ill take what i can get. I cut some of the windshield frame away at the top to ensure that it stays nice and tight.

Cage progress! Little by little its getting done. Ive been terrible on trying to keep updates here. I got the kid cage from my buddy zach and had to cut it down to work with my cage. Carseat will use the factory click in style buckles but i may use a ratchet strap just for extra caution.
