White TJ build

Yesterday I got the uppers set up and burned in along with the lowers. Drilled out my rotors for the new 6 lug pattern. Marcus stopped by too. Ended up scoring his old driveshaft from when he had the 8.8 and 7” stretch. Should fit nice

Today I finished mounting my upper coil perch. I think it turned out pretty good. I didn’t wanna go through the hassle of frenching the perch. I may regret it cause it’s putting me about an 1.5” over where I was if my calculations are right. But I did finally get a Tire mounted after doing some trimming

Well looks like it is gonna be a lil high. Here is a pic of it under its own weight. Anyone got any stock rear springs? Jimbo is gonna check for me too

Finally got a post worthy update! She’s on all four red labels. Brakes working driveshafts front and rear and sitting pretty good! Big thanks to nick @volt for the hook up on the stock rear springs and even got me level with some old 3.5” rubicon express springs. Still got several more items to address. Cut skid plate for front drive shaft. Find out where the trans is leaking and figure what the heck I’m doing with rear shocks. Here some pics from the last couple days of work. Overall I’m pretty happy where she’s sittin now

2.5 RC vs 3.5”rubicon front spring. Surprised the 2.5 was a lil taller but the rubicon coil is thicker 68e5b7616dd3436c708189d3dd0f19e1.jpg

Did a several small things this weekend. Replaced a 7.5 year old optima. Painted my front fender cut outs. Fixed a vacuum leak. Adjusted the “TV cable” or throttle valve for the transmission cause it was shifting rough. Still may need to tweak it some. Added the trans cooler. Removed the rear bumper and Reese hitch. Started cutting my rear corner armor out. Got the rear pass side done and took several hot laps around the neighborhood lol. I’m sure they love me since I still don’t have a muffler on

Started test fitting the rear armor. Looks like it’s gonna be a nice cut for the Tire. Only thing I don’t like bout these motobilt corners is even tho I bought the full blank set, there is a nice gap between the armor and the stock jeep cutout. So, I’m thinking about cutting out a piece and welding it in to fill the gap. Any thoughts or suggestions on that?
See the gap between steel and stock cutout...

Plan to cut out a shape like this and add a 90* piece to go under too

It’s been raining all day so I figured I’d get some work done on the rear armor so I cut out that piece and welded it in. Needs a lil bondo to fill a couple small holes but looks better than I thought it would. Anyone know of a cheap place to get these corners painted white. Greenwood to Columbia because I’m working out of our office down there now. Don’t need anything fancy just want it to kinda match. Also ordered some max-bilt Trail tail lights this weekend too.

i'm suprised the corners didnt at least cover the stock wheel opening? thats odd to me. Good job on the patch.
Yeah I was a little disappointed it didn’t cover the opening but they sell sliders of course to match up with the corners so that’s probably why. But thanks. Gotta do the pass side this weekend and get ready for paint

Finished prepping the rear corner armor and added the lower support piece and drilled a hole in it to be able to mount a thru bolt into the body. Hopefully this well help keep it in tact better. Gonna get bud to paint them to match this week. Put a lil bondo in the pin holes and sanded them down. And painted the inner fender wells with a fresh coat of flat black
Installed the nutserts for them too. Found this lil trick on YouTube and worked pretty well. Hold the nut with a wrench and run the bolt up with an impact gun.

I’m been putting it off but I think I decided to French in my rear shocks which will also allow me to keep same lower mounts. I didn’t want to cause I eventually want to run ORIs. I missed a decent deal the other week on 4-14” ORIs and haven’t confirmed exact lead time on new ones, but I hear it’s a while! So I ordered some F-250 shock towers from amazon. Here’s about how it would line up

Also trying to decide on tailgate. Wouldn’t mind converting mine to drop down like a CJ but I feel those kits are over priced. But motobilt did send me a spacer plate for the tailgate so last resort I’ll end up drilling out for that. Got the holes drilled for my maxbilt Trail tail lights. Only problem is they packaged two pass sides. The marker lights are both on the right. Messaged them Friday night and they asked for the pic and my mailing address so idk how they are going to handle it just yet. But they look great!

How wide is your tailgate opening? I think it would be sweet to use a CJ tailgate for a little vintage touch. I can measure the width of my CJ5 gate. But if the CJ gate isn't wide enough I wonder if you could narrow down the tailgate from a J10 to fit it.

You like how I give complicated suggestions to others, but I can't make time to do simple things on my own rig?

Swagg offroad makes a file down tailgate kit.
The price is kinda high. I can check with my buddy in the upstate. I sent him a few DFX files about a month ago, and one of them was for TJ folding tailgate mounting plates.

A CJ-7 tailgate should be the correct size shape to fit the best.

You don't necessarily need a kit to do it. Its super easy. I just used the CJ hinges, some nutserts(I have an installation tool you can borrow) and a piece of aluminum across the whole backside below tailgate. Savvy may even sell that aluminum piece. Mines even rocking the CJ Latches.

Yeah I’ve thought about that and looked on eBay and Amazon for some CJ hinges, cables and brackets that go inside the tailgate. Do y’all think the stock latch will hold the tailgate enough on the drivers side? I need to be able to open it from outside cause I have a hard top. But then again I may just pop the 4 holes in my corner armor for the tailgate hinges to be reinstalled
