The Long way home: YJ Fly and Drive

#1
A good friend of mine has been talking about an old YJ that his dad has that he used to drive around town and to the beach for years out in Texas. This year his dad said, if you want this YJ you should come get it. We discussed hot shot drivers and shipping companies for a while. On the way back from OSCAR this year (he rode with me) we got to joking about a fly and drive from Texas to his house in KY. Its about 16 hours straight driving according to google maps.

Lots still to plan. We will be flying in to George Bush Airport in TX on November 10 and we have to be in Mammoth Cave KY on Friday November 13.

More info to come.

How long that thing been sitting up?
His dad has been driving it around locally and its been checked out by a mechanic. Brooks wanted to fly in Wednesday and immediately jump on the road. I talked them in to getting into town Tuesday evening so we had a little time to look it over and address anything it may need.

I did a conference call with Chris and his dad last week. He has had all the ujoints changed, new cooling system, front main and rear main seals, valve cover gasket, and all fluids changed. It sounds like its in driveable condition for the most part. Perhaps better condition that a lot of vehicles people drive around.

I am the soon-to-be owner of the 87 YJ, and I am definitely looking forward to the trip of scenic roads, trails, food, and whatever shenanigans that we will encounter along the way. I feel at ease knowing I have @97TJGUZZY and @LBarr2002 along for the ride, since they know Jeeps inside and out. We definitely plan on posting pictures and videos of the road trip!
