Jeep TJ Radio Options

#1
So my 15 year old Sony head unit has all but died. I'm on the fence of finding a simple single din bluetooth compatible radio, or doing a double din carplay compatible radio from crutchfield.

Has anyone bought a radio recently and have any suggestions? I seem to recall @LBarr2002 put a radio in something recently.

I put a Pioneer DMH-2660NEX in the 2500. It was the cheapest thing in stock that was compatible with the rear audio. Considered putting a DMH-1770NEX in the Avalanche, just a cheaper version but very similar.

For the jeep, still have my single din Sony with Bluetooth. Don't think I'd change it to anything fancy, but you drive yours more than I do.

Going to a double din with Apple CarPlay/android auto is pretty nice for the maps. On the cheaper side I have been putting the same $69 pioneer single with Bluetooth in all my crap on have not regretted it

If you are not an audiophile, with several amps running subs, component door speakers, etc. I'd just grab the cheapest brand head unit like a dual and rock on. They all do the same thing basically, you just pay more for the big brands because they have preset EQ settings and more outputs/inputs. I've never owned a car play radio, or anything touch screen so maybe I'm missing out.

It's definitely convenient for navigation, calling, and phone apps. Really like it in the tow rig especially when I'm by myself.
I have a like 6 inch screen in my ole hoopdie f150.... My 6/8 inch android tablet is always in the front with my navigation on it... ive never liked the "auto/play" integration... just mount a tablet for navigation....

I stuck in an Alpine with Bluetooth and added an amp with built in crossover as I'm running a bazooka subwoofer, 6 speaker overhead sound bar and Klipsch waterproof speakers in the dash grills. I don't need a head-end because I use my phone for music, Nav and calls. If I want a separate Nav I use my Nuvi. The top is off most of the summer so I need some volume to hear the tunes with any clarity...and it's not much better with the soft top on. More power to you!

I've gotten spoiled with carplay in the toyota and gladiator, it would be sweet to be able to hook in the maps to the screen.

@jimbo92 which pioneer have you been using with bluetooth that you are happy with?

it seems like all of the carplay double din radios that crutchfield carries that are under 350 have mixed reviews.
