Why Do I Need a GMRS License & How Do I Get It?

Just ordered one. Rember we were talking about antennas this morning so what's the best antenna for this unit and can you program it at the campground before the poker run?

@highpockets - Yes I can program before the poker run or help you install it before then as well.
@Nigon - Its not "rain proof" but its a commercial radio so it gonna be pretty rugged... not sure the application
@billoftt - it uses a commercial kenwood cable, its just a ttl to usb ... i made mine from parts laying around.

I know nothing about this stuff. Please forgive my ignorance. This listing says it is for VHF 136-174 MHz. Is that compatible for use with the UHF 450-490 radio?

Edited for auto correct error.
@Nigon Updated my original post. The picture is actually a UHF, The Description said VHF... Who knows what you'd Get.
@highpockets - I didn't screw you up did i?

No I haven't done anything yet. Tripp, did you tell me that I could use the same cable from my CB. If so is it possible to find just the ends and base so I can DYI my own mount and not have to reroute a cable. I would like to use the same configuration I have now if i can and just modify the antenna mount to fit the new base.

Not easily. https://www.ebay.com/itm/PCTEL-BMAT...336877&hash=item33f38f429e:g:tUoAAOSw7FJbjZST that could be used and the connection cut off your old antenna, it does require soldering.

Alright after some time everyone's had with their radios anyone got a favorite to go with? Leaning towards the one Brooks got but was wondering if you could attach an external antenna to it?(radio) Those in vehicle ones posted in this thread are a little more than I would want to spend on a radio.

DJ let me know Midland has a buy 1 get 1 50% off on the MXT105, 115, and 400 with code Mobile50. It's not advertised but the MXT275 handheld is 25% off if chosen as your second item behind a MXT115.

I have that one, I have found that I have to charge it each night if we are on the trail for multiple days. I'm looking to do a hard mount in the JT and have the hand held as an addition. I think having one wired up seems to work better.
