Found an 8.8 from a 2001 sport trac. 250 out of the truck. Sound good?
Good axle, ok price. What ratio and is it limited slip?

You used to be able to have your choice from pull a part for around $150, but don't know if pricesnhave changed or if there's still tons of 2nd gen explorers in the yards.

So how would this work. Put the 8.8 in the rear and build the front with matching gears, locker, and Crome molly axle shafts. how would that work with 33” tires?

And as far as building the front. Chromo shafts, C gussets, and a truss and you'll be fine with 33s. I wouldn't build a 30 for bigger than 33s.

You know, if you have any ideas of engine swapping this thing I'd throw that 8.8 in with 4.10s. It would be a riot with a v8, 33s, and 4.10s. Or maybe even find a 3.73 8.8 and leave the front gears alone. But yeah if it stays 4 cyl you'll want more gear.

Dad's 4.0 is a 3 speed with 4.10s on 33s and its ok but I don't think a 4 cyl would be.

Hey thanks for all the info guys. Guess I’m going to have to regear both axles. So should I stay with the limited slip in the rear or go ahead and do a locker?
